With heavy hearts, we at Passages Arts Connection mourn the loss of our beloved board member, Cheri Rizzo, who passed away on February 15th. Cheri was more than a vital part of our organization—she was a guiding light to all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Cheri’s life was defined by love—love for her family, her students, her community, and for music. Her passion led her back to school so she could share that love as a middle school band and choir teacher at Gardiner Middle School. Her impact as an educator lives on in the countless young people she inspired.
To those who knew her, Cheri was not only a board member, but also a friend, mentor, and tireless advocate for the arts. She brought warmth, energy, and purpose to every space she entered, offering encouragement, lending a hand, or simply being there for those in need. Her presence radiated strength and compassion.
Cheri’s dedication to the arts shaped the very heart of Passages Arts Connection. She didn’t just support creative expression—she embodied it.
Beyond her public contributions, Cheri made a profound personal difference in many lives. Speaking from experience, I can say her support and belief in me years ago helped shape the path I walk today. She was far more than a “dance mom”—she was a source of inspiration I will never forget.
Our deepest condolences go out to Cheri’s family and loved ones. We are honored that her husband John and daughter Brandy will carry on her legacy as members of our board.

We are also proud to announce the creation of the "Mrs. Rizzo's Legacy in Music" scholarship fund which will help Oregon City students pursue their vocal and musical talents. If you would like to donate to this fund click HERE.
Cheri, your presence is deeply missed, but your spirit lives on in the lives you touched. Passages is committed to honoring your memory and continuing your work in nurturing young musicians and artists.
Though your baton rests, the music of your life plays on in all of us.
